At WWDC 2024, Apple announced the much awaited upgrade in the world of operating systems – iOS 18. The event was majorly focused on Apple Intelligence, which is deeply integrated into the upcoming flagships. But the one question that hovers after knowing what iOS 18 offers is, when will the new iPhone series be launched? iPhone 16 is expected to be released in September as per the traditions.
Apple is yet to release any official notification about the launch date, but there are widespread rumours around the iPhone 16 series. With several leaks and rumours circulating, let’s take a look at the possible specifications and expected features of the upcoming iPhone 16.
iPhone 16: Leaked looks of the device
The iPhone 16 series is likely to sport larger displays with even thinner bezels to improve the visual experience. The rumour has it that the tech giant will bring back the vertical pill shaped layout with the iPhone 16. The new changes are assumed to be brought in to allow the vanilla iPhone 16 variant to record spatial video, a feature which was exclusive to the higher end models of iPhone 15.
Additionally, the company is also likely to add a new Tetraprism 5x optical zoom lens on the iPhone 16. Apple is reportedly exploring new anti-reflective optical coating technology for its iPhone cameras, aimed at minimising artefacts such as lens flare and ghosting, thereby ensuring better image quality in various lighting conditions.
iPhone 16: Leaked design
Other than the change in camera layout, Apple is also expected to add the action button on the standard variant of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus lineup. As per the reports, Apple is most likely to replace the mute slider with the Action button.
It is noteworthy that Apple can also add another button on the iPhone 16 design. The rumour has it that the company will include a Capture button which is aimed to simplify video recording.
iPhone 16 battery life expected to get a boost
The iPhone 16 could get a boost in battery capacity as compared to the iPhone 15 lineup. The iPhone 16 may come with a 3,561mAh battery pack compared to the 3,349mAh battery seen on last generation's iPhone 15.
Apple might also fix the overheating issue with the upcoming iPhone 16 series. The reports suggest that the company will use a metal covering for its iPhone 16 batteries as compared to the foil casing on last year’s device.
Leaked processor
The processor of the iPhone 16 series will play a major role in enhancing the new device’s performance, especially as it is integrated with AI. Reportedly, the iPhone 16 series could be powered by the A-18 chipsets, but the vanilla and iPhone 16 Plus variants. However, Apple could provide the Pro variants with an upgraded Neural Processing unit in order to improve handling of machine learning and AI-related tasks.
